at KALA Friday
ASTORIA — KALA will host a “First
Person: Authors Talk,” Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Robert Michael Pyle
will join host Heather
Hirschi to discuss his
latest books “Nature
Matrix: New and Selected
Essays,” and “Tidewater
Reach: Field Guide to the
Lower Columbia River in
Michael Pyle
Poems and Pictures.”
Pyle has authored 24
books, from poetry collections to butterfl y
books. The 2020 fi lm, ‘The Dark Divide’
starring David Cross and Debra Mess-
ing told the story of of Pyle’s epic jour-
ney through Washington’s Giff ord Pinchot
National Forest.
Pyle’s books will be available for sale
at the event. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets
are $15 and can be purchased at brown-
papertickets.com. Proof of vaccination or
a negative COVID-19 tests are required
to attend, masks must be worn inside the
venue. KALA is located at 1017 Marine
Drive in Astoria.

Astoria School of Ballet to host mini-
performances of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Th e Nutcracker’
ASTORIA — The Astoria School of
Ballet will host mini-performances of
“Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker” Saturday
at Liberty Theatre.
The free, 18-minute performances are
scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., noon,
12:30, 1 and 1:30 p.m.
Santa will be available for pictures in the
theatre’s ticket kiosk prior and throughout
the performances from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Vaccination cards will not be required as
the performances are targeted toward chil-
dren, however masks and social distancing
will be enforced inside the theatre.
Clatsop County
4-H to host
virtual cookie
baking event
ASTORIA — The Clastop County
4-H will hold a virtual holiday baking
event Wednesday from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
The time slot includes an hour refrig-
eration time for the dough. The fi rst 12
participants ages 5 to 19 to register for
the event will receive a cookie cutter and
sprinkles. Recipes and a supply list will
follow after registration. Younger mem-
bers will need to have parental support to
participate.
The event is free, attendees should
