Halloween contest winners
By NIKKI DAVIDSON
COAST WEEKEND EDITOR
Congratulations to the winners of the
2021 Coast Weekend Halloween DIY
contest!
Last month, we asked readers to submit
photos of their best seasonal home decor,
costumes and treats.
We received a variety of submissions,
which were then voted on by the public.
The winning entry is “Zombie Buff et,”
an edible display described by creator Rose-
mary Johnson as a ham-covered skull with
treats displayed in a zombie body.
The setup includes skeleton serv-
ing hands, paired with a side of delicious
“intestines.”

The second-place winner is “Beware the
Kraken,” submitted by Theresa Schlitt. The
nautical decor depicts a pirate fi ghting off a
Kraken. A Kraken is a gigantic sea monster
that resembles an octopus or squid. The leg-
end is rooted in Scandinavian folklore.
If you missed a chance to enter the Hal-
loween contest, there’s another opportunity
coming up.
Coast Weekend’s 2021 Photo Contest
will launch later this month. Residents from
along the coast, from Willapa Bay to Rock-
away Beach, are welcome to showcase pho-
tos captured this year.
Three winners will be selected from
the contest entries, plus a fourth People’s
Choice Award winner.
The top 10 photos will appear in an edi-
tion of Coast Weekend. The top 25 photos
will be published online.
