By GARY HENLEY
The Astorian
Another summer, another
nationals title for a local

defeated the Future Fish of
Astoria 4-2 in the fi nal game
(division 12C) of the North
American Fastpitch Asso-
ciation Summer Nationals,
held last week at locations
in Aurora, Newberg and
Yamhill.
A North Coast 14U team
won a similar championship
last summer.

Q: How does sensitive
toothpaste work?
A:
Imagine one of your teeth - it has
two main sections: the crown above
the gum line and the root below.
People with sensitive teeth experience pain
when their teeth are exposed to something
hot, cold or when pressure is applied.
JEFFREY M. LEINASSAR
DMD, FAGD
The layer of enamel may be thinner and the
gum line may have receded, exposing more
dentin. Therefore, the recession makes teeth
more sensitive.
L E I NA S S A R
Sensitive toothpaste works by blocking the
tubules in the dentine with a chemical called
strontium chloride. Repeated use builds up a
strong barrier by plugging the tubules more
and more, leading to less-sensitive teeth.
