Trail work party seeks volunteers
ASTORIA — A trail work party
is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
on Saturday at the Cathedral Trail
trailhead.
Volunteers are required to sign a
waiver before participating. Partici-
pants should bring work gloves and
appropriate shoes.
Once at the site, parking is free.
Volunteers should tell the lot atten-
dant they’re there for the work party.

ASTORIA — KALA will host
author Florence Sage at 8 p.m. Friday
at 1017 Marine Drive. Tickets are lim-
ited to nine small groups of two to three
people each. Tickets cost $15 and are
available at brownpapertickets.com
The event also is part of KALA’s
new monthly original series, “First Per-
son: authors talk,” which will feature
an hour of lively discussion with local
authors and writers. Heather Hirschi
will be the series’ host.
Sage is an Astoria poet who has
been instrumental in the area’s literary
scene since the 1990s. Her most recent
book is “The Man Who Whistled, The
Woman Who Wished: A Polish-Ca-
nadian Story.” The book features 62
poems inspired by her family. Signed
copies are available at RiverSea Gal-
lery, 1160 Commercial St., and Time
Enough Books in Ilwaco, Washington.
Audience members will be able
to ask performers questions and can
expect some surprises during the events.
Events will features writers’ perspec-
tives on everything related to writing.
KALA is overseen by HIPFiSH-
monthly, whose publisher is Dinah
Urell.
