Washington libraries host summer events

PACIFIC COUNTY — Timberland
Regional Libraries is hosting summer pro-
grams, including an art program and a sum-
mer reading program.
The art program is a “take and make”
type of program for children, which will
begin Tuesday and last six weeks. The
library challenge runs until Aug. 31.
To participate in the art program, chil-
dren can be signed up at their local library.
Each week, children can pick up art project
supplies to work on at home. Participating
children will learn about painting, drawing,
printmaking and mixed media.
Children can also sign up for the read-
ing program at their local library or online
at trl.org/summer-library-program. Partici-
pants will get a free book for participating.
Throughout the summer, virtual events will
be hosted for free, including story times,
STEM activities and performances.
Registration is required for both pro-
grams. All library programs are free and
open to the public.

Astoria art residency program seeks applicants
ASTORIA — Astoria Visual Arts is
seeking applications from local artists
interested in participating in its gallery
residency program from July 1 to Dec.
31. The application deadline is Saturday
at astoriavisualarts.org/ava-air
The selected artist will work in a rent-
free studio above the Astoria Visual
Arts Gallery. The residency program
is “designed to encourage the creative,
intellectual and professional growth of
local artists.”
Artists who have applied previ-
ously are encouraged to reapply with an
updated portfolio and statement refl ect-
ing updates.
