Now run by Jordan Schnitzer, President of The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, CommuniCare is a year-long academic grantmaking program that gives Oregon high school students an opportunity to learn more about issues that affect their communities and to develop a commitment to social activism. Students are challenged to raise up to $1,500 which is matched 10:1 by The CARE Foundation to donate to local nonprofits that are chosen by the students. Fundraising was optional this year, due to the challenges presented by COVID-19. Learn more about CommuniCare at www.communicareor.org. NORTH COAST SCHOOLS GRANT $45,000 TO OREGON NONPROFITS “Through the process of interviewing nonprofits, you learn just how large of a difference your funds will make on the lives of those in your community. It’s also a really great opportunity to be the interviewer instead of the one being interviewed!” ANNALYSE, Astoria High School Astoria High School Warrenton High School “CommuniCare was a great leadership experience for me outside of sports and it added variety to my extracurriculars. It’s a unique opportunity for someone so young to be in charge of so much money!“ “I would tell future participants to dive into this adventure and not be afraid to speak up! CommuniCare has been great to my community and me. I am super grateful for this opportunity and all the experiences I have had.” ANN, Warrenton High School SAM, Warrenton High School
