Astoria First Baptist Church
In support of the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts building, the North Coast Symphonic Band donated $10,000 to help
complete repairs to the east-facing wall and fl oor, which had sustained large amounts of water damage over a long period of time.
The work has now been completed by CBM Development and Construction of Astoria. ‘Thank you to the North Coast Symphonic
Band for such a generous gift,’ said Bereniece Jones-Centeno, executive director of the performing arts center.

Ushimaru initiated into honor society
The Astorian

Warrenton, was recently ini-
tiated into the all-discipline
collegiate honor society of
Phi Kappa Phi at San Jose
State University in San Jose,
California.
Membership is by invita-
tion only, and requires nom-
ination and approval by a
chapter. Only the top 10% of
seniors and 7.5% of juniors
are eligible for membership.

Museum to let students par-
ticipate in the dissection of
sharks that had washed up,
been recovered and frozen.
On June 3, Warrenton
eighth graders took measure-
ments and samples of a 3-foot
salmon shark’s liver and mus-
cle, which will be sent to
the Hatfi eld Marine Science
Center and used in further
research.
On June 5, fi fth graders
from Eisenhower Elementary
School in Vancouver, Wash-
ington, dissected a 7-foot
broadnosed sevengill shark.
