Competing for the Gold team were Maevri Berger- son, Karli Gantenbein and Lily Schaelling. “All our girls did their best and we are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments,” said Infi nity director and owner Nancy Taylor. “Our team coaches Douglas Oldham and Darian Hageman have done an amazing job pre- paring our girls for this short competition season. Infi nity is very grateful to have such amazing team coaches.” The 2021-22 season for Infi nity Gymnastics begins July 5. Astoria girls dominate Dayton, 44-20 night at home against Gas- ton, and the Lady Loggers maintained the lead and held on for a 32-22 Northwest League win. Taryn Barendse led Knappa with 10 rebounds and three assists, while Han- nah Dietrichs scored 11 points with nine boards. The Loggers were com- ing off an emotional win over Warrenton the night before. “After a strong game on Thursday night, we started the game a little fl at on Fri- day,” said Knappa coach Tra- cie Brockey. Knappa missed its fi rst 11 free throw attempts in the fi rst half, but the Greyhounds struggled with 20-plus turn- overs in the fi rst half. “The girls refocused and had a much stronger second quarter (going on a 12-2 run), connecting on some nice passes, and stepping up their defensive pressure,” Brockey said. “I think their legs were a little tired, but they found ways to keep the lead and The Astorian The Astoria girls basket- ball team is rounding into championship form, as the Lady Fishermen played their best half of the season Friday in a 44-20 win at Dayton. Last-second shot helps Dayton beat Astoria The Astorian The Astoria boys bas- ketball team rallied from an 18-6 defi cit in the sec- ond quarter, and took brief leads in the second half before Dayton scored on an off ensive rebound bas- ket at the buzzer for a 36-34 victory Friday at the Brick House. Niko Boudreau and Colton McMast er led Asto- ria’s comeback over the second and third quarters, with Boudreau scoring nine in the third, capped by a 3-pointer that gave Asto- ria a 26-25 lead. Dayton rallied and, holding a 34-32 advantage in the closing minute of the fourth quarter and looking to run time off the clock, a Pirate pass was intercepted by Astoria’s Bo Williams, who drove the length of the fl oor to tie the game at 34-34 with 30 seconds left. The Pirates played for the fi nal shot — and missed — but Trae Wall grabbed the off ensive rebound and scored as time expired. Dayton made buzz- er-beating shots to end the fi rst, third and fourth quarters. Rainier 42, Warrenton 35 Warrenton lost for the fi rst time in league play Fri- day night at Rainier, where the Columbians snapped a 31-31 tie after three quar- ters and posted a 42-35 win over the Warriors. Rainier’s Kenney Tripp scored six points in the fourth quarter, helping the Columbians to their fi rst win following an extended baseball season. After losing a Thurs- day night battle at Knappa, it was the second night on the road for the Warriors, who struggled to score after putting up just four points each in the second and fourth quarters. Knappa 47, Gaston 24 Knappa’s Brandon Gale and Logan Morrill scored 12 points apiece — equal- ing Gaston’s point total for the night — helping the Loggers to a 47-24 win over the Greyhounds in Northwest League action Friday. Shane McMahan hit three 3-pointers and fi n- ished with 11 points, while Mark Miller and Tucker Kinder played important minutes and gave Knappa a spark off the bench.
