Nurturing creativity and inspiration Clatskanie resident unveils new studio and art center BY RAY GARCIA Clatskanie resident Barbara Odoms recently launched the new Studio II Art Center, which officially opened on April 22. “I’ve been told I have no fear and I don’t know if that’s good or bad but I’ll take it anyway,” Odoms said. “It just seemed like the right thing to do.” The new center will host a range of art classes and workshops, designed for both novices and experienced artists. It also offers studio spaces for local artists to lease for a monthly membership fee. Nestled between Bryant and Tichenor streets, the center is located within the Clatskanie Business Center, which housed Clatskanie Middle School until 1998. Odoms’ personal studio, the Gilded Bloom- ers Studio, is also situated in the business center. “It’s a beautiful old building and I hate to see it go to waste,” Odoms said. “If I can bring more life back into this building, that would make me happy.” Preserving a creative outlet The new art center isn’t the first artis- tic venture that Odoms pursued during the pandemic.
