Stuff the truck
food drive raises $10,900
Hampton donates lumber
to performing arts center
WARRENTON — A stuff the truck food drive, presented by Arbor
Care Tree Specialists, was held at Fred Meyer on Nov. 21. Monetary
donations were collected instead of food, because of COVID-19,
and the event raised $10,900 for the Clatsop Community Action
Regional Food Bank. Pictured, with the check, are food bank staff and
volunteers.
Hampton Lumber in Warrenton donated lumber to the Charlene
Larsen Center for the Performing Arts to help complete repairs to
an east-facing wall and fl oor that had sustained large amounts of
water damage over a long period of time. The repair is now well
underway, with the work of CBM Development and Construction of

Pacifi c Power
announces grants
As part of the company’s com-
mitment to supporting its com-
munities, Pacifi Corp Foundation,
a nonprofi t arm of Pacifi c Power,
is donating more than $525,000
across the six states it serves.
The funding goes to sup-
port over 200 safety and well-
ness grants as part of the most
recent round of quarterly grants
provided by the foundation each
year. The next grant cycle is now
open through June 15; organi-
zations may apply online at bit.

The following North Coast
organizations received grants for
providing critical safety and well-
ness programs: The Assistance
League of the Columbia Pacifi c,
to support the Operation School
Bell and Duffl e Bag programs;
Clatsop Community Action,
for COVID-19 emergency food
resources for children and fami-
lies in Clatsop County; Cannon
Beach, to help construct housing
for communication equipment
for the Cannon Beach Medical
Reserve Corps; and the Warren-
ton-Hammond School District,
to provide computers and Wi-Fi
access for low-income families
and support the food backpack
program.
Irwin receives
Hitchman award
WARRENTON — Warren-
ton High School student Sam-
uel Irwin has been selected to
receive the L.R. Hitchman Fam-
ily Achievement Award for 2021.
Irwin has dedicated himself
to numerous organizations. His
achievements include serving as
student body president, Commu-
niCare vice president, football
team captain and wrestling team
captain.
In addition, he has won the
Warrior of the Year award, which
is given by Warrenton High
School to the student who dis-
plays the highest excellence aca-
demically while also displaying
a signifi cant role in community
involvement.
Irwin plans to obtain a degree
in biology from Oregon State
University, and then enter a phy-
sician assistant program to obtain
certifi cation.
The $2,000 Hitchman award
was established over 30 years
ago. The award is off ered to a
selected junior or senior at War-
renton High School to help defray
higher education expenses. Stu-
dents apply for the award through
the school.
Astoria police
participate in
National Distracted
Driver Month
During the month of April,
the Astoria Police Department, in
conjunction with Oregon Impact,
deployed additional offi cers to
enforce the distracted driver law.
Participating offi cers stopped
and contacted an average of two
drivers per hour and explained the
distracted driver law, and the rea-
son for it, to the driver and their
passengers.
With the help of Oregon
Impact, the department will
continue this type of enhanced
enforcement throughout the
year, hoping to reduce the num-
ber of distracted drivers, as well
as the number of crashes involv-
ing these drivers and innocent
motorists.
Warrenton holds
Spring Cleanup
The
Warrenton Spring
Cleanup is from 8:30 a.m. to
4 p.m. Sunday at the Astoria
Transfer Station, 1790 Williams-
port Road.
The cost is $5 per load, cash
only; a loaded vehicle and trailer
of garbage is two loads. The fol-
lowing items have additional
costs: Tires, no rim, $3 each; tires
on rim, $6 each; refrigerators and
freezers, $35 each; other large
appliances, $10 each. Participants
must unload their own vehicles.
No hazardous chemicals or
waste, such as motor oil, paint,
batteries or household cleaners,
and no construction materials,
will be accepted.
A photo ID and a current War-
renton utility bill for garbage ser-
vice are required to participate.
