The Fishermen host Val- ley Catholic Friday, followed by a year-ending, state gath- ering meet May 21 and May 22. All three teams had high- light performers in Saturday’s meet. Astoria sophomore Ella Zilli set personal records in winning both the 800 meter in 2 minutes, 43 seconds and the 1,500 in 5:27. On the boys side, Warren- ton swept the distance races, with Forrest Cooley in the 800 (2:16), and Zander Moha in the 1,500 (4:21) and 3,000 (9:41). Nearly every runner scored personal best times in all three races. Astoria senior T.J. Col- vin had personal best times in winning the 100 (11.55) and 200 meter (23.84), and also helped both Fishermen relay teams to victories. Fisherman junior Colton McMaster was a triple winner in the throwing events, with a 56-4 in the shot put, nearly 17 feet farther than Warren- ton’s Sam Irwin (PR 39-8), while Astoria’s Presley Beck won the high jump and triple jump. Astoria softball defeats Valiants, 12-2 The Astorian On Senior Day at CMH Field, Astoria pounded out 14 hits in a 12-2, five-in- ning win over Valley Catho- lic, in Cowapa League soft- ball action. The Lady Fishermen scored 10 runs in the first inning, as they improved to 6-5 in Cowapa League play, 6-7 overall. Five players had two hits apiece for Astoria, which finishes the league season Tuesday at Valley Catholic. Gulls 8, Tillamook 3 Seaside kept its league championship hopes alive with an 8-3 win Friday at Tillamook. The Gulls are 7-2 in league play behind Banks (10-0). The Gulls and Braves finish the league season with single games Thursday at Seaside and Saturday at Banks. Tigers sweep Warriors The Taft Tigers collected a combined 27 runs on 24 hits in a 17-3, 10-6 double- header sweep over Warren- ton in Coastal Range League softball action Friday. Warrenton held early leads in both games, but Taft pitchers Hailey Weaver and Lily Hatton tossed back-to- back two-hitters, leaving the Warriors with just four hits on the day. In Game 1, Warrenton scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Tigers rapped out 15 hits, and ended the game after five innings. The Warriors rallied from a 10-2 deficit by scoring four runs in the seventh inning of Game 2, before falling short. Jamie Annat had a triple for Warrenton. Nestucca 9, Knappa 8 The Nestucca softball team took over first place — for the time being — in the Northwest League standings Friday, with a 9-8 win over Knappa on the Loggers’ home field. Nestucca moved to 6-2 in league (10-2 overall), while the Lady Loggers dropped to 5-3 in league, 5-6 overall. Emily Larson, Vicki Ramvick and Hannah Diet- richs all had two hits apiece for Knappa, which had eight hits for the game. Dietrichs pitched a complete game for the Loggers, allowing 10 hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Knappa has three games remaining with Vernonia, while the Bobcats finish the season with three games against Neah-Kah-Nie. Moore pitches Astoria baseball to 11-1 win The Astorian Astoria scored in five of the six innings Friday, on its way to an easy 11-1 victory at Valley Catholic in Cow- apa League baseball action. Fishermen starter Michael Moore went the distance on the mound, giv- ing up just one hit with six strikeouts and four walks, while Astoria built a 7-1 lead through four innings. The Fishermen pounded out 13 hits, with 3-for-3 efforts at the plate for Aiden Giles and Niko Boudreau. Giles had a double, triple and drove in four runs for Astoria, which improved to 4-7 overall. Valley Catholic committed eight errors, and slipped to 2-8. Astoria hosts the Val- iants Tuesday to close out league play, followed by a doubleheader Friday at Newport. Gulls 8, Tillamook 1 Seaside scored four runs in the first inning, on its way to an easy 8-1 win Friday over Tillamook at Broadway Field. The Gulls had seven hits, with doubles by Tan- ner Kraushaar and Lawson Talamantez, while Justin Morris went the distance on the mound, allowing nine hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Warriors sweep Taft Warrenton tuned up for this week’s three- game series with Rain- ier by sweeping Taft, 17-5 and 10-3, in a Friday doubleheader. Dawson Little and Dylon Atwood picked up the wins on the mound, while Little and Mike Ulness each had two hits and two RBIs in the opener, Josh Earls led the way with three hits in Game 2. The Warriors lead the Coastal Range League standings at 8-0, and will host the Columbians for one game Tuesday, fol- lowed by a doubleheader Friday. Warrenton’s last loss was the April 14 season opener against Ilwaco, while Rainier is 9-0 overall. Knappa still undefeated The Knappa Loggers are working on yet another per- fect season, as they moved to the top of 2A baseball with an 11-0 overall record, following an 8-5 win over Nestucca Friday, in North- west League baseball action. With the league title already wrapped up, Knappa (8-0 in league) closes out the regular sea- son this week with three games against Vernonia, 1-8 overall. The Loggers had eight hits from eight players, and drew eight walks in Fri- day’s win. Camo Miethe had a dou- ble and drove in two runs. Jaxon Dietrichs threw 97 pitches in seven innings, allowing 10 hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
