Astoria Sunday Market is excited to welcome you to our 21st season Astoria Sunday Market Art by Noel Thomas Today’s Astoria Sunday Market grows on the 20 years of markets before us! operators in the Pacific Northwest. The Market has created a vibrant educational marketplace for the community benefit. Set on 12th Street in Downtown Astoria, the shops, streets, and style may have changed with the times, but the vibrancy of the community continues to build on our history and creativity. The Astoria Sunday Market merged with the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association in 2021, and together they work to preserve and advance historic downtown Astoria’s culture and character through inspired partnerships and community engagement to support a vibrant and resilient economic future for all Astorians. For 20 years, Astoria Sunday Market has helped to revitalize historic downtown Astoria and to improve the economic viability and vitality of farmers, artists, artisans and other small business Astoria Sunday Market is a ‘Growers & Makers Market’ with a diversity of ever-changing products, produce, and artists who are inspired by the richness of our region. When you shop at the market, you are meeting the people who are making or growing the products. Ask them about it! They’ll be happy to share. While holding the history of the market close, ASM continues to create new experiences, flavors, and sounds for market-goers young and old to discover. We are so excited to be working with Noel Thomas for this year’s Astoria Sunday Market art! Since 1990, Thomas has been painting watercolors out of his Astoria, OR studio. Born in Longview, WA, he studied watercolor and graduated with distinction from Los Angeles Art Center College. He went on to pursue a 15-year career in advertising art in New York and Los Angeles. Returning to the Northwest in 1974, Thomas continues to paint the landscapes of his surroundings, most notably those of Astoria. He expressed, “I paint because I’m excited by what is around me — the endless subject matter here on the Columbia river, along the roads, in my studio. The effects of time and the elements are what I like to explore — on ships, buildings, the sink in my studio which used to be a dentist’s office. Everything has a story.” Thomas’s watercolors can be seen at the Riversea Gallery, Instagram (noel_thomas_watercolors), or his website (www.noelthomaspaints.com). ASTORIA SUNDAY MARKET 2021 | 3
