MANZANITA — Hoff man Cen-
ter for the Arts will accept writing and
art submissions for its annual publica-
tion, The North Coast Squid, from Satur-
day to May 31 at hoff manarts.org/events/
submit-to-the-squid/
This year marks the publication’s
eighth edition. The literary magazine
features the work of writers and art-
ists who live on the North Coast or have
strong connections to the region. Poetry,
nonfi ction, memoirs and fi ction are
featured.
Submissions will be selected by
authors Margaret Chula, Apricot Irving
and Deb Vanasse. Art and photographs
will be selected by the publication’s edi-
torial team.
Applicants ages 19 and older are
required to pay a $3 submission per cat-
egory. Past issues of the publication
are available to purchase for $10 at the
Hoff man Center Gallery, Manzanita
News and Espresso, and Cloud and Leaf
Bookstore.
The Charlene Larsen Center for the
Performing Arts will fea-
ture a series of virtual
concerts starting Sat-
urday via its YouTube
channel, bit.ly/2PgbEdW
Local artists will be
featured in the videos,
which will last about 30

minutes each. Scheduled
performers include the
Brownsmead Flats, with David Drury
and Luke Ydstie; the Sassie Lassies;
Myshkin and Jenny Q; Perspicuity with
Jerry Middaugh and Joanne Rideout;
the Astoria Tuba Quartet, led by Brian
Bergman; the North Coast Chorale, led
by Denise Reed; Deac Guidi, accompa-
nied by Susan Buehler; Aleesha Nedd,
with David Drury; and guitarist Simon
Levene.

but donations are encouraged via part-
nersforthepac.org

Artists sought for large mural
CLATSKANIE — Design proposals are
requested for a mural on the former Clats-
kanie Hospital through May 16 at clats-
kaniearts.org/mural-project
The hospital was the birthplace of poet
Raymond Carver. Design proposals should
be inspired by Carver. Proposals can be
turned in as drawings, paintings or other
illustrations. Designs should take up at least
half of the total available wall space. Any-
one living in Columbia, Cowlitz, Clatsop,
Pacifi c or Wahkiakum counties can apply.
The selected artist will paint their mural
between July and September. Cash prizes
will be awarded to the selected artist and
runner-ups. A complete list of expecta-
tions is available to review at the project’s
website.
