Plant sale set for Saturday Parks are free Th ursday NEHALEM — Lower Nehalem Com- munity Trust will host a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Alder Creek Farm, 35955 Underhill Lane. Registration is required at nehalemtrust.org. The sale is an annual fundraiser which supports the trust’s community garden pro- gram, which educates and shares produce with the community. Plants for vegetable and fruit gardens, and fl owers that are edible or attract benefi cial insects, will be for sale. Customers will be expected to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Food web hosts plant sale ASTORIA — North Coast Food Web will host an Earth Day event, featuring a plant sale and activities, from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Plant vendors will be present from noon to 4 p.m. Activities will run from noon to 7 p.m., including a free seed table and a plant-a-seed station. Vendors will include Gales Meadow Farm, Aldervale Native Plants, Sea Dance Nursery and KJewels Farm. Payment meth- ods will vary by vendor but SNAP EBT will be accepted for vegetables, fruits and herb plant starts and seeds. Ilwaco actors to host virtual show Ilwaco Timberland Regional Library and the Peninsula Players will host a virtual show at 7 p.m. Thursday via Zoom. Reg- ister online at events.trl.org for the Zoom link. The show will be an “after dinner story time for adults.” Seasoned theater actors will entertain viewers with stories and poems that are close to the actors’ hearts. The Peninsula Players typically stage three to fi ve shows per year at the River City Theater in Ilwaco, Washington, but haven’t been able to perform since early 2020 because the coronavirus pandemic. Other showings will be held at 7 p.m. on May 27 and June 24. Roadside cleanup scheduled for Wheeler WHEELER — Lower Nehalem Com- munity Trust will host a roadside cleanup event from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., off U.S. Highway 101 and Hemlock Street. Register at nehalemtrust.org. The event will be held in honor of Earth Day. Volunteers will clean alongside the highway, in a section managed by the trust for Oregon Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program. Participants should be at least 16 years of age. All participants will be required to sign a waiver and release prior to participation. in Washington state A free day is being off ered by the Wash- ington State Parks and Recreation Commis- sion on Thursday. The free day is in honor of Earth Day. On free days, visitors to Washington state parks will not need a Discover Pass for a day-use visit. The Discover Pass is required to access lands managed by the Washing- ton Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources. The movie will be about four teenagers from the Pacifi c Northwest who run away from home “and set off on an improvisa- tional odyssey in search of hope, opportu- nity and adventure.” The group encounters a string of unique characters, “fi lled with spir- itual ingenuity and haunted by the repercus- sions of the American Dream.” Bill Ross and Turner Ross will direct the movie. The casting crew is seeking “daredevils, fearless outcasts, misfi ts and the like. Strong personalities.
