College faculty featured in art show A Clatsop County Historical Society Heritage Museum exhibit focuses on attempts to assimilate Native Americans. Museum exhibit refl ects on boarding schools ASTORIA — Clatsop County Histori- cal Society is hosting a temporary exhibit until May 25 at the Heritage Museum, 1618 Exchange St. The exhibit, “Away from Home: Amer- ican Indian Boarding School Stories,” explores off -reservation boarding schools that the U.S. government used between the 1870s and 1930s to educate and assimilate American Indians. Admission costs $5 per person. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ASTORIA — The Royal Nebeker Gal- lery is featuring Clatsop Community College art faculty in a show displayed through May 13. Featured faculty include Lucien Swerd- loff , Richard Rowland, David Homer, Miki’ala Souza, Ben Rosenberg and Kris- tin Shauck. Featured pieces encompass a wide range of media including draw- ing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and photography. Artists Deanna Antony and Modou ‘Ao’ by Miki’ala Souza. Dieng are also featured in the gallery. Ant- ony is the current Astoria Visual Arts artist in residence. Dieng is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portland.
