Volunteers sought
to clean downtown
Astoria Downtown Historic District
Association is looking for volunteers to
help clean up downtown on April 17. To
register, visit bit.ly/2OcFbEE.
During the event, volunteers will tend
fl owers, remove graffi ti and stickers, and
remove weeds from sidewalks.
Volunteer shifts are available for as short
as an hour or as long as three hours.

Singer-songwriter
Weezy Ford set to
perform Saturday
SEAVIEW — The Sou’wester Historic
Lodge will host Portland singer-songwriter
Weezy Ford for a livestreamed concert
from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Tucker is from the band Left Coast
Country. The performance will be hosted
on the lodge’s Instagram, instagram.com/
souwester.
The show is appropriate for all ages and
is free to watch.

Essay contest
open to high
school students
Lecture to
focus on rise
of sea levels
The 2021 Ninth Circuit Civics Con-
test, an essay and video competition
for high school students, is accepting
entries until midnight on April 15 at
ca9.uscourts.gov/civicscontest.
Students should write an essay
responding to the prompt “How
should we as a society strike the
appropriate balance within the frame-
work of our Constitution between
safeguarding our rights and fulfill-
ing our responsibilities to each other?”
The contest is open to Washington
state and Oregon residents, as well
as residents from other states and
territories.
The contest is sponsored by federal
courts of the U.S.
NEHALEM — Lower Nehalem
Watershed Council will host a lecture at
7 p.m. Thursday at lnwc.nehalem.org.
Meg Reed will host the lecture, titled
“Preparing for Sea Level Rise in Ore-
gon.” Reed will discuss the expected
impacts of sea level rise along Oregon’s
coast.
Reed is a coastal shores specialist for
the Oregon Coastal Management Pro-
gram. She provides technical assistance
and policy guidance on land use and haz-
ard mitigation for coastal areas.
The meeting is part of the council’s
online speaker series. An upcoming
event will also be held May 3.
