are hosting a book
drive until March 31
to improve literacy
of students at Lewis
and Clark Elementary
School.
Books can be
donated by purchasing
a book online at amzn.

book from a book drive
display at Lucy’s Books,
348 12th St. Books pur-
chased at Lucy’s will be
discounted.
The project is one of
the job corps’ 2021 ser-
vice projects. All of the
books purchased during
the drive will be donated
to the elementary school
at the end of March.

off ers free day Friday
A free day is being offered by the Wash-
ington State Parks and Recreation Commis-
sion on Friday.
The free day is part of a celebration for
Washington State Parks’ 108th birthday.
On free days, visitors to Washington state
parks will not need a Discover Pass for a
Land conservancy seeks volunteers
for early spring wildfl ower plantings

to access lands managed by the Washing-
ton Department of Fish and Wildlife and the
Department of Natural Resources.
Remaining free days are April 3, April
22, June 5, June 12, June 13, Aug. 25, Sept.
25, Nov. 11 and Nov. 26.
SURF PINES — North Coast Land Con-
servancy will host small, socially distanced
volunteer parties to plant native wildfl owers
between mid-March and April 1.
The plantings will be held from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, March 23,
March 24, March 26, March 30, March 31
and April 1. Each planting party is limited
to six volunteers.
A total of 3,000 plugs of dune tansy and
edible thistle will be planted during the
events. The wildfl owers are considered an
important nectar species for pollinators.
To register for a planting, visit nclctrust.
org. Volunteers will be expected to wear
masks and stay at least six feet away from
others. Staff will be present during each
event.
