    Lecture to focus on salmonids

NEHALEM — Lower Nehalem Water-
shed Council will host a lecture at 7 p.m.
Thursday at lnwc.nehalem.org.
Jeremy Lees will host the lecture, titled
“What is the Lower Nehalem Rapid Bio-
assessment?” Lees will discuss Bio-Sur-
veys LLC’s fi ndings from the Lower
Nehalem Rapid Bioassessment and Limit-
ing Factors Analysis.
The assessment focused on salmo-
nids and was conducted in 2018 and 2019.
Lees will explain the assessment’s fi nd-
ings and the watershed’s strengths and
challenges.
The meeting is part of the council’s
online speaker series. Upcoming events
will also be held April 8 and May 3.

Astoria artist to host virtual talk CrosswordAnswers
ASTORIA — Multi-disciplinary artist
Deanna Antony, Astoria Visual Arts’ cur-
rent artist-in-residence, will host a virtual
artist talk at 5:30 p.m. Friday at astoriavisu-
alarts.org.
During the talk, people will be able to
virtually visit with Antony and see her
recent projects. Antony’s work includes
soft sculptures made by sewing fabric into
shapes.
Antony’s residency lasts from Novem-
ber to June.
Lecture will highlight beavers
ASTORIA — Jakob Shockey, exec-
utive director of The Beaver Coalition
and owner of Beaver State Wildlife Solu-
tions, will present “Collaborating with Bea-
ver for a Resilient Future” for Lewis and
Clark National Historical Park’s monthly
“Nature Matters” lecture series at 7 p.m.
Wednesday.
Shockey has worked professionally in
Oregon’s streams, rivers and wetlands for
over eight years. During the lecture, he will
discuss benefi ts of collaborating with bea-
vers in ecological restoration.

Art exhibit open to local residents
ASTORIA — Astoria Visual Arts is
accepting artwork from local residents for a
juried exhibit that will celebrate Earth Day.
Submissions are due April 7.
Participants must live in Pacifi c County
and Clatsop County. Artists can submit two
original pieces, completed since March
2018. Submissions should be smaller than

36 inches tall by 36 inches wide. Artists can
submit artwork between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
on April 7 at the gallery, 1000 Duane St.
Selected art will be featured in Asto-
ria’s Second Saturday Art Walk. Pieces will
remain on exhibit from April 10 to May 1.
