RV destroyed in fire in Astoria
A motor home was destroyed Sunday morning in a
fire on Marine Drive in Astoria.
Officials say the driver noticed smoke while driving
and stopped. No injuries were reported.
The fire slowed traffic in the area for more than two hours.
Police investigating
explosive device in Astoria
Astoria police are investigating property damage that
occurred Monday caused by an improvised explosive device.
Police responded to Emerald Heights on Monday
morning for a report of damage to a vehicle related to
fireworks. Upon investigation, police determined that an
improvised explosive device made with additional items
to act as projectiles had been set off, causing damage to
two vehicles.
The debris from the devices was thrown about 30
feet. Police believe the device was set off at about 2 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detec­
tive Cory Gerig at 503-298-2547.
Beaverton man ID’d in Seaside drowning
SEASIDE—A Beaverton man has been identified as
the victim of a drowning Thursday near the mouth of the
Seaside estuary.
Officials say Lloyd Arthur Costello, 55, was reported
to have been kayaking in the area in the hours leading up
to his body being discovered at about 3 p.m.
Emergency crews tried to revive Costello, but were
unsuccessful.

A spirited July Fourth

With the traditional Fourth of July parades, fireworks shows and festivi­
ties canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Clatsop County resi­
dents celebrated through car parades, demonstrations and private gatherings.
