fundraiser
seeks teams
ASTORIA — Special Olympics Clat-
sop County is recruiting teams for a bas-
ketball jamboree fundraiser.
The jamboree will be held at
1 p.m. on March 14 in Astoria
High School, 1001 W Marine Drive.
Anyone can participate for free. Dona-
tions will go to Special Olympics Clat-
sop County.
Teams will play alongside Special
Olympics athletes. The Astoria Clowns
will participate as both players and game
referees.
Games will last 15 minutes. Each
game will be fi ve-on-fi ve and take up
half a court. Players will be allowed to
sub in and out.
Concessions and bake sales will
be available during the event, with all
funds going to Special Olympics Clat-
sop County.

Lecture to focus on
Oregon’s marine life
Nehalem estuary in need of restoration
NEHALEM — North Coast Land
Conservancy is looking for volun-
teers to help remove invasive plants on
Wednesday.
Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to
noon at the conservancy’s Fishers Point
Habitat Reserve and Lower Nehalem
Community Trust’s Zimmerman Marsh.
Tasks will include removing ivy and

Volunteers should bring gloves, work
boots, snacks and water. The conservancy
will provide tools.
Dogs are not allowed at the property
and bathrooms will be unavailable.

CANNON BEACH — An upcoming
presentation will focus on marine mam-
mals along the Oregon Coast.
Keith Chandler, of the Seaside Aquar-
ium, will be the next speaker for the
World of Haystack Rock Library Lec-
ture Series. His presentation will start at
7 p.m. Wednesday in the Cannon Beach
Library, 131 N. Hemlock St.
Chandler has worked for the aquar-
ium for over 40 years. He will discuss
marine mammals commonly seen close
to the Oregon Coast. Recent changes for
marine life will also be discussed.
