presents “Stand Up
Tragedy,” retelling the
stories of leaving a war
torn country and living
the “American Dream.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $8 at the

Quãng was born in
a small village outside
of Pleiku and later then
lived in Saigon, the cap-
ital of South Vietnam,
the three to four years
prior to leaving. It was
1975 and the last day of
the war. Quãng was 15.

ASTORIA — The Writer’s Guild of
Astoria presents “The eye, the ear, the
page, the mic,” a writing workshop hap-
pening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at
the Astoria Studio Collective, 372 10th St.
The cost is $35 per class, with discounts
for members and scholarships available.
In this informative interactive work-
shop on all things poetic, Florence Sage
will present “Writing Poems for Read-
ing Aloud,” focusing on lyric narrative,
rhythm and sound with very brief writing,
reading and tips for using the mic.
Robert Michael Pyle will discuss Pars-
ing the Particular: How to fi nd, keep, and
use specifi c details of the physical earth
for poetry and prose with brief writing.
The workshop will conclude with practice
at the mic.
Pyle writes fi ction, poetry and essays
from a Swedish homestead in Washington.
His 24 books include the award-winning
Wintergreen, Sky Time in Gray’s River,
and Where Bigfoot Walks and more.
Sage has been an Astoria poet and an
organizer of local poetry events since

SEASIDE — The 6th Annual Tillamook
Head Gathering for the benefi t of the arts at
Seaside High School will be held Sunday
at the Seaside Convention Center, 415 First
Avenue. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for
browsing the silent auction and the program
will begin at 5 p.m.
This year’s entertainment will feature
The Orbitonz band plus performances by
the Seaside High School A Capella Choir
and Jazz Band. Advance tickets will be
available for $10 at Seaside Coffee House,
Beach Books, Cannon Beach Book Com-
pany and the high school’s business offi ce.
Tickets will be available at the door for
$15.
The Tillamook Head Gathering was cre-
ated to encourage the exposure and inspi-
ration of arts beyond the walls of Seaside

supported projects such as literary fi eld
trips, SHS Arts Day, the choir performance
