Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in advance at libertyasto- ria.org. Free tickets for students under 18 years old are available in our box office. One of the best things about 45th Par- allel is the idea that a group of restless musicians could get together in a room and come up with creative and uncon- ventional programs that don’t otherwise fit in our respective ensembles. The orchestra will celebrate the release of 45th Parallel’s latest record- ing with a performance of Dohnanyi’s Sextet. The piece dates from 1935 and is Dohnanyi’s last piece of chamber music. It is for the unusual combination of clar- inet, horn, piano, violin, viola and cello. This fact has virtually insured it would be little heard in concert — a great pity because it is a masterwork. After a decade on the road and in stu- dios as a side person supporting countless talented artists, the Portland-based sing- er-songwriter returns home to give herself fully to her unique brand of alt-folk. Her latest album, “Eastern Bound For Glory”, is inspired by her life on the road, experiencing the emotional rollercoaster of being an internationally touring musi- cian. The masterful 10-song release signi- fi es a homecoming to her solo career and back to her beloved city. It’s an aesthetic departure from her previous work in that the record explores bold indie rock instru- mentation and vibey spaghetti western atmospherics. Honest and poetic writing, crystal- line vocals, impassioned violin composi- tions and an ability to move seamlessly across genres, are the hallmark of Kathryn Claire’s original and diverse sound. Utiliz- ing the immense talent of her trio featur- ing Allen Hunter on bass, and Sid Ditson on violin, Claire delivers her own unique brand of harmonic alt-folk music. This event is for those 16 years and older. KALA is located at 1017 Marine Drive in Astoria.
