Astoria Christian Church Astoria Christian Church is holding a 100- year anniversary cele- bration on Sunday at the church, 1151 Harrison Ave. The day starts with a time of refreshments at 10 a.m., and a church service at 10:30 a.m. Three past min- isters, Everett Payton, Dave Drullinger and Frank Loyd, are speaking about their time serving as pastors in Astoria. A luncheon fol- lows the service. On Oct. 27, 1919, the First Church of Christ of Astoria was incorporated. Through the decades the name changed several times before becoming Astoria Christian Church. The church’s current loca- tion has been occupied since 1947. This year the sanctuary and foyer were remodeled in order to pre- pare for this anniversary celebration. Part of the church’s ser- vice to the community is providing weekend lunches for the students of the alter- native high school at the Gray School campus, par- ticipating in the Baby Bot- tle Fundraiser for Coast Pregnancy Clinic and rais- ing money for the local food bank. WARRENTON — Encore Dance Studio and Born to Entertain Preschool are hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the new second studio location and preschool space at 737 E. The Astorian The Secret Gallery hosted a dinner and art auc- tion event called “Humane Behavior” on Aug. 3 for 30 guests, raising $3,800 for Clatsop Animal Assistance (CAA), a nonprofi t animal welfare organization that supports the Clatsop County Animal Shelter. CAA pays for veterinary care, cat litter, grooming and other supplies and pro- motes the shelter’s adoption program. The money raised will cover about one-third of CAA’s part of the spay/neu- ter fees for the year. The event began with an appearance by Mary Alt- ieri of Mary’s Milk Mon- sters and her goat, Jasper. Students invited for free health screenings, barbecue The Astorian Seaside Seventh-day Adventist Church Encore opens new space in Warrenton The Astorian The Secret Gallery raises $3,800 for animals TLC/Wauna Federal Credit Union Two local credit unions, TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, and Wauna Federal Credit Union, hosted a free Shred Day event Aug. 3 in Warrenton. Credit union volunteers, pictured, and shred services employees served 71 cars by collecting boxes of paper documents to be shredded. Volunteers also collected 219 pounds of food donations and $315 in cash for the Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank and Warrenton Food Pantry. COMMUNITY IN BRIEF Red Cross needs blood donations before summer ends The American Red Cross needs blood and platelet donations, as donations have not been keeping pace with patient demand. If they don’t com- plain about it, then no one ever checks it.” James hopes the event will become an annual one.
