Seaside Elks Lodge presents scholarships Astoria Class of 1989
to hold picnic, reunion

SEASIDE — Elks schol-
arships were presented at the
Senior Scholarship Awards
at Seaside High School on
June 4.
Seaside Elks Lodge No.
1748 scholarship chairman
Hugh Kerwin made the fol-
lowing presentations on
behalf of the Seaside Lodge
and the Oregon State Elks
Association (OSEA):
Dylan Meyer and Hay-
ley Rollins each received
scholarships of $1,000
from the Seaside Elks; and
they each also received an
award of $1,600 from the
OSEA Northwest District.
In addition, Rollins received
a state award of $1,500.
Parker Conrad received an
award of $1,400 in a district
competition.

The Astoria
High
School Class of 1989 is
holding its 30-year reunion
Aug. 16 and 17. The week-
end starts with a mixer at
7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Buoy
Beer, No. 1 Eighth St.
On Aug. 17, the day
starts with a picnic from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cof-
fenbury Lake, Picnic Shel-
ter A, with hamburgers,
veggie burgers, other pic-
nic food and non-alcoholic
beverages. A day use fee of
$5 per car is required.
Tickets cost $5 each,
and can be purchased at
bit.ly/30thpicnic89. The
registration deadline is 24
hours prior to the event.
Tickets are refundable up
to 7 days prior to the event.
The day ends with din-
ner and dancing starting at
6:30 p.m. at The Ruins at
The Astor, 1425 Commer-
cial St. Dinner is catered
by Fulio’s, and features
salmon, salsa rosa vegetar-
ian pasta, roasted potatoes,
vegetables, salad, bread
and nonalcoholic drinks. A
no-host bar offers beer and
wine.
The event includes a
free photo booth, ping
pong and foosball. Danc-
ing goes until midnight,
when the music is cut off,
but people are welcome to
stay later, as the room is
rented until noon the next
day.
The cost of the dinner/
dance is $50 per person. To

Hunters offer Youth
Shoot/Family Fun Day
The Astorian
The Oregon Hunters
Association (OHA), Clat-
sop County Chapter, is
holding its 10th annual
Youth Shoot/Family Fun
Day (for ages 6 to 17)
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June
29 at the Clatsop County
Fairgrounds. Participants
must be accompanied by
an adult supervisor.
The event features a
shotgun skills/skeet shoot-
ing station, .22 rifl e range,
muzzleloader shooting,
archery, a BB gun range
and fi rearm safety, as well
as angler education, a cast-
ing skills station, wildlife
pelt display, trapping pre-
sentation and youth hunt-
ing and outdoor education
information. Experienced
instructors and assistance
are provided, and novices
are welcome. A barbecue
lunch for all is provided.
The cost is $15 per
youth, and can be paid at
the door; mandatory adult
supervisors attend free.
Each youth receives a
junior membership in the
OHA. Firearms, ammuni-
tion and hearing/eye pro-
tection are being provided
by OHA and the Oregon
Department of Fish and
Wildlife.
Those who preregis-
ter by June 27 are entered
into a drawing for a .22
rifl e, but must be pres-

PERMIT APPLICATIONS
DUE JUNE 30, 2019
Beginning July 1, 2019 operating a
homestay lodging rental without a
permit or providing false information
on an application will result in a fine of
$1000 per-day. Astoria homeowners
with an existing business license and
transient lodging tax collection must
also submit a permit application.
Business licenses alone do not complete
the homestay lodging permit requirements.
