10 ASTORIA WARRENTON CRAB, SEAFOOD & WINE FESTIVAL • 2019
wine competition
JUDGES
Gabriel Jagle
Gabriel Jagle is the winemaker at Scenic Valley Farms, a job title he
finds incredibly rewarding and slightly unbelievable. He previously
worked at Wine & Spirits Magazine and Illahe Vineyards, and he has
judged the Astoria Warrenton Crab, Seafood & Wine Festival
competition once before. His favorite thing about wine is enjoying it
with friends around the dinner table, paired with good food and good
music. To learn more about his wines, visit the Scenic Valley Farms
tasting room Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or go to
www.scenicvalleyfarms.net
Kerry McDaniel Boenisch
Kerry McDaniel Boenisch teaches wine sales and hospitality classes at
Linfield College, is the incoming president for the Oregon Chapter of the
National Speakers Association and owns DirtVineWine Communications.
When she’s not writing books about wine or contributing to the Oregon
Wine Press, she is entertaining audiences with down-to-earth wine
presentations. Kerry grew up on one of Oregon’s first commercial
vineyards in the Dundee Hills, currently known as Torii Mor Winery. Her
books include “Vineyard Memoirs”, “Dirt + Vine = Wine” and the
upcoming “American Pinot Noir in Paris - The Art of World Class Wine
Sales.” Visit her at www.DirtVineWine.com
Patrick McElligott
Patrick McElligott is a 5th generation Oregonian raised on a ranch in
Eastern Oregon, where a sign on the house fence proclaims, “Welcome
to the real middle of nowhere.” He has been part of the Oregon wine
industry since 1980, and has worked in retail, quality control, consulting
and sales and marketing. He is the first member of the Oregon wine
industry to present a bottle of Oregon wine to a high official of the USSR,
Yuri Dubinin, ambassador to the USA, in 1988. He is the only remaining
original faculty member in the Chemeketa Community College
Winemaking and Viticulture program, where he wrote three of the tasting
courses and currently teaches one of them. He presently works sales and
marketing for Sineann Winery, near Newberg, Oregon.
Toni Ketrenos
Toni Ketrenos first developed a passion for wine as a student in Paris,
eventually making it her life’s work. In 2018, she opened Winebow’s
Oregon distribution company after representing its imported wines in the
Northwest for three years. Prior to that, she was corporate wine and beer
buyer for New Seasons Market. She earned the Diploma of Wine and
Spirits from the WSET and has travelled around the world to discover the
magic that creates terroir. When the wind is right, you’ll find her on the
Columbia River on her 33-foot Ranger sailboat “The Rhône Ranger” or
her kayak. She also enjoys hiking, sewing and cheering on her 15-year-
old son.
Viki Eierdam
Viki Eierdam is a wine, culinary, travel and business writer with a soft spot
for inspiring nonprofit organizations. As a freelance writer, her work has
appeared in over 15 Pacific Northwest publications including 1889
Magazine and NW Travel & Life Magazine. She is Level 2 WSET-
certified and a Fellowship award winner for the 2018 Symposium for
Professional Wine Writers at Meadowood Napa Valley. When not writing,
this Washington State native cherishes her time with her husband of 25
years and their two special-needs Australian shepherds. Connect with her
