THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 2019 // 17 No strings attached to ‘Newfi es Know’ puppet show FORT CLATSOP — Lewis and Clark National Historical Park celebrates Junior Rangers on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, as part of Junior Ranger Days. At 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days, gather out- side the Visitor Center to watch an original puppet show, “Newfi es Know.” Based on the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s journal entries, the story recounts all mentions of Capt. Meriwether Lewis’ New- foundland dog, Seaman. The show is performed by Jan Hanson of Solarity Puppetry. The show lasts about 45 minutes. Along the way attendees will meet animals, Native Ameri- cans and members of the expedition. “Solarity Pup- petry” is a literacy-based, solar-powered puppet the- ater caravan where stories come to life. Junior Ranger books for children 5 and up will be available throughout the day. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., you may also join a ranger for a guided sen- sory exploration walk on a one-mile trail. These events are included in the $7/adult general admission or with a park pass. For more information, call the park at 503-861- 2471, or check out nps. gov/lewi or Lewis and Clark National Histori- cal Park on Facebook and Instagram. Registered participants receive complimentary lunch and beverage from Buoy Beer, a t-shirt, and a glass medal created locally by Fernhill Glass Studio. The Kids Fun Run will be held again this year, too. The start and fi nish line will be at Buoy Beer Co. on Eighth Street. Due to con- struction on the Riverwalk Runners at a previous race take off along the Columbia River. File photo scheduled through the end of May, Run on the River is detoured from the certifi ed course on the Riverwalk beginning at the Sixth Street platform to 14th Street. This means that the race will not be certifi ed this year. Not running this year? Volunteer! The event is a fundraiser hosted by the Astoria Parks, Recreation and Commu- nity Foundation, sponsored by Buoy Beer Co. and sup- ported by local businesses. The intention is to raise money for scholarships for individuals and families to utilize health and wellness programs provided by Asto- ria Parks and Recreation.
