Spend an evening wandering through downtown Astoria, savoring art, taking in galleries, making friends with artists, sampling refreshments and enjoying the city’s nightlife. The Art Loft in progress the past month 106 Third St. Portraits of setters in Wahkiakum County (1870-1940) by emergent artists from Cathlamet High School and acrylic portraits and landscapes by acclaimed artist Blue Bond are featured at Astoria Art Loft. Come early, from 1 to 4 p.m. 5. McVarish Gallery 80 10th St. (Pier 11) Featuring work from six local artists as well as live music starting around 7 p.m. Sip wine, eat and enjoy the arts. In just over a year, Nelson has produced an abundance of abstract oil paintings on canvas, in addition to exploring with spray paint medium. Nelson describes his creative process as manic and wild, exploring the intersection of spirituality, imperma- nence and the mysterious. 3. Smoked Bones BBQ February 1 160 10th St. “Mutation/Manifestation” is a collection of 9-inch by 12-inch works on paper. What might seem natural in a toad or a lizard manifests itself as a mutation in the human body. An Eastern worldview on the third eye, organic and holistic, in stark contrast to the more mechanistic Western world, yet outwardly manifest as one reality. 2.
