With assistance from Surfsand Resort’s wedding team in obtaining the
permit for a beach wedding, supplying a sound system and recommending
a variety of vendors and services, the Resort’s wedding package “made
planning very easy,” Chris said. “We went through them and were able to
pick and choose the features we wanted for our wedding and reception,”
he added.
The ceremony was held on the beach, with guests encouraged to dress
beach formal, which Logan described as, “you are comfortable on the beach
but you remember you’re going to a wedding”— flip-flops were off limits.
The reception followed at the Haystack Gardens. The resort worked with
Executive Chef Josh Archibald and his team at the Wayfarer Restaurant to
handle the catering, and the couple was able to go a bit “off-script” with a
menu that included corn cakes with black bean salsa, cream-cheese stuffed
jalapenos, and a taco bar. Afterward, the celebration continued at a beach
bonfire, complete with a beach attendant, “which everyone thought was the
greatest thing ever,” Logan said.
Reflecting on their wedding, Chris said one of his best memories is when
they were reading the vows they wrote themselves.
“Logan is not the most emotional of people,” Chris explained, with Logan
agreeing, “I’m stoic to a fault.”
But in that moment, Chris said, “we were super vulnerable with each
other,” and their loved ones were present to witness it.
For Logan, the best part was “getting everyone together in the same
place.” Many of their family and friends chose to use the Labor Day
weekend wedding as a reason for a bit of an extended vacation.
The couple also agreed they deeply cherish the images captured by
Astoria-based photographer Jody Rae, who was “a pro at getting those
candid shots,” Logan said. Around Christmastime, they were going through
the photographs and reliving their experience.
“It was a nice little trip down memory lane,” Logan said.
