Coast Guard keeps working during government shutdown without pay

I
n the midst of a government shutdown with no end in sight, the Coast Guard continues to do the hard work of protecting the waters and peo-
ple of Clatsop County and the rest of the country. The only difference is, unlike the other branches of the armed forces, they are not getting
paid. The Coast Guard is under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, while other branches are part of the U.S. Department of Defense.
