This year, Burkett was featured on the PBS Weekend NewsHour. The pro- gram’s focus was on the artist’s genius and commitment to fine-art film/darkroom photography skills honed by Burkett’s friendship with celebrated photographer Ansel Adams. Submit your ‘Secret Astoria’ for AVA, RiverSea show ASTORIA — Astoria Visual Arts seeks artists for a members’ exhibit at River- Sea Gallery, Saturday, Jan. 12, through Tuesday, Feb 5. Artwork must explore the theme “My Secret Astoria.” All media are welcome. Current members are invited to submit one to three pieces to RiverSea from noon to 4 p.m. Sun- day or Monday, Jan. 6 or 7. Artwork must not exceed 36 inches wide and must be for sale. As wall space is limited, Betsy Millard, executive director of the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, will select artwork to be included in the exhibit. The opening reception will take place during Astoria’s Sec- ond Saturday Art Walk, 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 12.
