Local firefighters to help
battle California blaze

Clatsop County fire crews
are joining strike teams from
around the state helping bat-
tle the Camp Fire in Northern
California.
Structural and brush trucks
from Seaside, Gearhart, Lewis
and Clark, Knappa and Olney
left Friday, along with a
Columbia County strike team.
Personnel have been told they
could be gone up to 14 days
battling the Camp Fire.
Strike teams are heading
south as part of the Emergency
Management Assistance Com-
pact, a national state-to-state
mutual aid system requested
by California.
Jim Walker, the state fire
marshal, is mobilizing 15
strike teams from Jackson,
Klamath, Douglas, Lane,
Marion, Linn, Benton, Lin-
coln, Polk, Washington, Mult-

on the 2480 block of U.S. Highway 101 and charged with fourth-degree assault and menacing. He
allegedly kicked and stepped on a teenage girl during a domestic dispute.

ing for suspects in an early
morning robbery near Seventh
Street and Marine Drive.
A man was walking in the
area just after 1:30 a.m. today
when he was approached by two
men. One of the men asked him
for a cigarette and marijuana.
