It’s the ‘Wild North West’ at museum art show ILWACO, WASH. — The Colum- bia Pacific Heritage Museum holds its ninth annual 6-inch- by-6-inch Art Show and Auction on Saturday, Nov. 3. This year’s event, “Wild North West,” has gathered more than 60 art objects from some of the region’s most tal- ented artists. The theme for this year’s auction is inspired by the natural beauty of the Long Beach Peninsula and surrounding areas. The silent and live auc- tions will take place 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum, 115 S.E. Lake St., Ilwaco. The works will be avail- able to view in the museum’s special exhibition gallery during the event. They can also be seen on the museum’s website: columbiapacificheri- atgemuseum.org. This event is the largest fundraiser for the museum’s exhibition programs. The event begins at 5 p.m., with the last walk starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Clatsop Visitor Center. All zombies, vampires, superheroes, princesses and others are welcome. TILLAMOOK — North Coast Land Conservancy staff members head to Tillamook on Wednesday, Oct. 31, to plant seeds of native plants, re-pot seedlings and help with other tasks at Northwest Oregon Restoration Partner- ship, which supplies plants for many of the land conservan- LEWIS AND CLARK NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK — On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, Lewis and Clark Na- tional Historical Park hosts a pair of bat-based events. At 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, join Dr. Tara Chestnut, a wildlife ecologist from Mt. Rainier National Park to learn about bats, the deadly white-nose syndrome that has decimated their popu- lations, and what national parks in the Pacific North- west are doing about it. The event takes place at the Netul Landing Bus Shelter, 91427 Fort Clatsop Road, Astoria. Then, on Saturday, Oct. Drive, at 8:30 a.m. to carpool or caravan to the site. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves if they have them and a lunch. Dress for the weather; volunteers will probably work in covered but unheated spaces. Fun run/walk raises money for Hispanic students ASTORIA — Elias Sim- mons, a senior at Astoria High School, invites the community to participate in his senior project: a 5K walk/run fundraiser on the Astoria Riverwalk the morning of Saturday, Oct. 27. The race starts at the Barbey Maritime Center at 10 a.m. and goes to 11:30 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $5 per person, $10 per family. Donations are appreciated. Funds will go toward the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council scholar- ship program, which aids Latino high school students in Clatsop County and at Il- waco High School seeking aid to pay for their college tuition.
