3B THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2018 Pacific Power donates funds to further 13th Street Alley project The Daily Astorian The Pacific Power Foun- dation awarded a grant of $2,000 to the Astoria Downtown Historic Dis- trict Association for its 13th Street Alley Activation project. The alley connects Duane and Commercial streets; the project, estimated to cost approximately $12,500, is now almost 50 percent funded. ADHDA Executive Director Sarah Lu Heath, who has helped lead the effort to pursue a permanent lighting and art installation for the alley, said the first phase of the lantern installa- tion will be created over the next several weeks. A request for proposals from regional artists will be issued this winter if funding is completed. An additional $6,000 is needed to fully fund the 13th Street Alley project. Hospital foundation hosts tribute to giving The Daily Astorian On Oct. 11, at the Colum- bia Memorial Hospital Founda- tion’s annual Celebration of Giving, Knight Cancer Collaborative Direc- tor Chris Laman reported that the new center has saved people with cancer 3,700 trips out of the area to receive radiation therapy in its first year. The evening culminated with the presentation of three awards that honor extraordinary leadership that embod- ies the spirit of philanthropy, both at the hospital and in the community. Laman presented Dr. Jennifer Lycette, medical director of CMH’s medical oncology clinic, with the Caduceus Award, which recognizes a physician or provider who has gone above and beyond to advance philanthropy at CMH and in the community. Both Laman and CMH CEO Erik Thorsen credited her for inspiring the creation of the Cancer Collaborative. Bill Garvin, chairman of the foun- dation, presented the Terry Award to Linda Jones. This award recognizes a vol- unteer leader who has gone above and beyond to advance philan- thropy at the hospital and in the community. The President’s Award recog- nizes a hospital employee. The 2018 recipient was nurse Laura Parvi. She was recognized for her tireless work with the Clatsop County Relay for Life. Penny Cowden, executive direc- tor of CMH Foundation said, “People who donate their time, treasure and talent make great things possible now and for future generations.
