Ambassador Nikki Haley is leaving the administration at the end of the year, she and President Donald Trump announced today. She gave no reason for her departure after two years, though there has been speculation she will return to government or poli- tics at some point. Haley said she and Trump together had “solved a lot of problems.” They spoke in the Oval Office, shortly after word came of her plans to resign. Trump called Haley a “very special” person, adding that she told him six months ago that she might want to take some time off. It’s the latest shakeup in the turbulent Trump admin- istration just weeks before the November midterm elec- tions. Haley’s resignation was a closely guarded secret. Congressional Republicans involved in foreign policy mat- ters and some key U.S. allies did not get advance word from Haley or the White House. Haley, who is specu- lated to hold aspirations for higher office, said at the White House: “No I’m not running in 2020.” She said she will sup- port Trump. Haley, 46, was appointed to the U.N. post in Novem- ber 2016 and last month coor- dinated Trump’s second trip to the United Nations, including his first time chairing the Secu- rity Council. A rookie to international politics, the former South Car- olina governor was an unusual pick for to be U.N. envoy. “It was a blessing to go into the U.N. every day with body armor,” Haley said, saying her job was to defend America on the world stage. At the U.N., Haley helped spearhead the Trump adminis- tration’s efforts to combat what it alleged to be anti-American and anti-Israel actions by the international body. Trump said he was con- sidering many candidates for Haley’s job and that a succes- sor would be named in two to three weeks. Trump tweeted that “The peo- ple of South Carolina are embarrassed by Nikki Haley.” “Before she was named by Trump to her U.N. post, Haley was elected the first female ton Post discussing her pol- icy disagreements but also her pride in working for Trump. The ramen comes in bowls with a soft- boiled egg and vegetables. Bartlett, a native of Maine, grew up enamored with the dual simplicity and complexity of Japanese cul- ture and cuisine, she said. Eventually, she started her own underground ramen delivery service. She moved to Portland nine years ago and studied at the Oregon Culinary Institute before going to work in ramen houses. A few years ago, she started helping run Bowl & Roll, the mobile eatery started by Tiller and silent partner Jonathan Hoffman, owner of the Dough Dough Bakery in Seaside. Roll & Bowl traveled between local farmers mar- kets before Tiller and Bart- lett tried to set up shop per- manently in Seaside. But like other prospective South County food carts, they ran into the roadblock of Sea- side not yet allowing mobile eateries. “We were hoping to just kind of bide our time and wait, and it was moving a lit- tle too slowly,” Tiller said. “We wanted to get our prod- uct out there. We love to make our food, so it’s kind of hard taking the winters off.” Roll & Bowl is slowly building its menu, starting with ramen and some other grilled specialties. In the next couple of weeks, Til- ler, who started at sushi bars in Arizona and trained in Hawaii, will start working in some basic sushi rolls. “Once the summer sea- son comes in, and products are coming in, we’ll prob- ably start doing some more intensive stuff, nigiri and some seared albacore, stuff like that,” Tiller said.
