The dates and locations are Oct. 10 and Dec. 13, Clatsop Community College, 1651 Lexington Ave. in Astoria; and Nov. 7, Bob Chisholm Community Center, 1225 Avenue A in Seaside. All classes are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a lunch break. Those attending are encour- aged to arrive early to get paperwork completed. Although anyone can attend, this course is designed for seniors age 50 and older, and includes current rules of the road, defensive driv- ing techniques and making adjustments to accommodate age-related changes. Informa- tion on aggressive drivers, air bags, seat restraints and new technologies is also provided. Oregon law provides for a discount on auto insurance premiums for most drivers completing this course; atten- dance at the entire class is required to receive a certifi- cate of completion. The cost for the class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Tuition is payable at the start of class with checks made payable to AARP. Volunteers must The Clatsop Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program Board of Directors has announced that Amy Jones has joined Clat- sop CASA as its executive director following the depar- ture of Julia Mabry, who left to take a research position at Oregon Health & Science University. Jones graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University majoring in political science with a minor in criminal justice. Most recently she was the execu- tive director of a nonprofit for eight years, and has an extensive background in pub- lic speaking and volunteer recruitment. CASA volunteers speak solely for a child’s best inter- ests, make informed recom- mendations to the court and advocate for services for chil- dren who are in the child wel- fare system. With current volunteers serving over 100 children each year, there is still a waiting list of children who need CASAs to speak up for them. The next session of vol- unteer training starts Oct. 10.
