Miss Clatsop
County program set for Saturday
seeks contestants in Nehalem

Young women ages 13 to
24 interested in becoming the
next Miss Clatsop County,
Miss North Coast, Miss Clat-
sop County’s Outstanding
Teen, or Miss North Coast’s
Outstanding Teen are asked to
go to missclatsopcounty.org to
download an application.
Among other requirements,
contestants must reside, attend
school or work in Clatsop, Til-
lamook, or Columbia counties.
The Miss Clatsop County
Scholarship Program is an offi-
cial preliminary competition
for the Miss Oregon Schol-
arship program, a part of the
Miss America Organization, a
leading scholarship provider
for women. In 2018, the Miss
Clatsop County organization
made available over $7,000 in
scholarships to local women.
The Miss Clatsop County
Program is scheduled for Jan.
26 at the Seaside Convention
Center. Teen and Miss Contes-
tants are judged in interview,
talent, physical fitness, eve-
ning wear and on-stage ques-
tion. The deadline to enter is
Dec. 1. Winners will move
on to the Miss Oregon pag-
eant in June, with the possibil-
ity of moving to the national
competitions.
The Miss Clatsop County
Scholarship Program also sup-
ports a Princess program, a
mentoring program for young
ladies ages 6 to 12. A $75 par-
ticipation fee is requested. At
a random drawing, one prin-
cess will become the official
Princess for the Miss Clatsop
County Scholarship Program
for the year, and be sponsored
at the Miss Oregon pageant
with a possibility to move on
to Miss America’s Outstand-
ing Teen Program in Orlando,
Florida. For information, con-

Scholarship Program is run
solely by volunteers, and indi-
viduals interested in starting
a program in Tillamook and
Columbia counties is being
sought.

NEHALEM — The
Lower Nehalem Commu-
nity Trust hosts the 16th
annual Harvest Festival
from noon to 4 p.m. Satur-
day at Alder Creek Farm,
35955 Underhill Lane in
Nehalem.
This is a free, fami-
ly-friendly event filled with
activities for both adults
and children, and includes a
farmers market.
Vendors have fresh local
food, and live music is pro-
vided by the Nehalem Valley
All Stars. Wine and beer are
available, as well as fresh-
pressed organic apple cider,
an apple slingshot, face
painting and hands-on activ-
ities for the kids. Stroll the
Community Garden, or join
a guided tour from 2:30 to 3
p.m. and learn about organic
techniques and practices.

WARRENTON — The African gospel duo IJen-
Neh appears in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pioneer
Presbyterian Church, 33324 Patriot Way in Warren-
ton. Admission is by goodwill donation.
IJenNeh began as Echoes of the Blind, in Monro-
via, Liberia, a group of blind men and women who
sang for food on the war-ravaged streets of Liberia.
Lead singer, and half of the duo IJenNeh, Lasana
Kanneh, next became a part of the Liberian groups A
cappella, then African Gospel A cappella. He toured
the U.S. several time with both groups, before form-
ing IJenNeh, which means “Heaven.”
