ASTORIA — The Astoria
Railroad Preservation Asso-
ciation is holding its annual
open house — with free
barbecue — from noon to 5
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.
The public is invited to
see and touch a real steam
locomotive under resto-
ration in the shop at 446
West Marine Drive. The site
is in the quonset hut near
the intersection of Industry
and Portway streets. Park-
ing is along Industry Street.
Folks can poke around
and ask questions of people

The Astoria Railroad
Preservation Association is
hard at work restoring its
1925 Baldwin No. 21 to its
original glory. The associa-
tion plans to give the engine
a maiden spin in the next
year or so.
Formed in 1990, the
ARPA is composed of in-
dividuals interested in pro-
moting public appreciation
of the historical importance
of the railroads to our area.
They have set as the
initial objective the res-
toration of a steam loco-
motive to operate in the
Astoria area.
