Jazz great Fareed Haque returns to Manzanita
MANZANITA — Internation-
al jazz star Fareed Haque
brings his funk/Latin/soul/
jazz band to the San Dune
Pub in Manzanita at 8 p.m.

A prolific guitar player,
composer and educator,
Haque started his jazz career
with fusion pioneer Joseph
Zawanil, starred in Paco
D’ Rivera’s Cuban Orches-
tra, toured with Sting and
founded the Indo/Latin/Fu-
sion band Garaj Mahal with
German bassist Kai Eckhart
in 2001.
Mahal took the jazz
world by storm, and two
years later Guitar Player
Magazine named Haque
“World Guitar Player of the
Year.”
Haque’s Funk Brothers
is a loose association of
skilled musicians who rotate
in and out of the band with
a core group. The leader
likes how different lineups
affect the sound of the band.
“That keeps things fresh and
fluid,” he said.

Manzanita Music Festival
through the Fareed Haque
Music Camp, which takes
place Monday and Tues-
day, Sept. 17 and 18, at the
historic Reed House. The
camp is for all musicians
and includes an intense

flute and organ concert
with Sean Koreski at
the Clatsop Community
College Performing Arts
Center, 6 p.m. Saturday,

Koreski is a master of
the pan flute who tackles
some of the most beau-
tiful music in the world.
He has played the instru-
ment for most of his life
and performed in concert
since 1996.
His shows feature a
beautiful and unique
twist on classical music.
