Writers group holds book sale, open house
ASTORIA — The League of
Intertidal Writers, a new As-
toria-based literary arts non-
profit, will hold a fundraising
book sale and open house
9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 9, at 639 Clatsop Ave. in
Astoria.
The sale will feature a col-
lection of used titles of literary
fiction, mysteries, thrillers,
memoir, science and nature,
biography, travel, classic Pacif-
ic Northwest tomes and some
rare and desirable books.
Hardbacks will cost $2,
paperbacks $1, and some
books are specially priced.
The League will also hold a
raffle every half hour, where
winners will receive unique
literary-themed prizes (book-
ends, literary arts, journals
etc). Visitors will also have
the opportunity to learn more
about The League from its
members.
The League of Intertidal
Writers mission is to produce
and disseminate free print
publications of prose and
poetry written by writers from
the Pacific Northwest coast.
The organization consists
of about 20 members from
all over the region who meet
on a regular basis in Astoria
to write, converse, laugh,
listen, think, build community
through the sharing of ideas
and produce free print publi-
cations. Oregon author Matt

The League of Intertidal Writ-
ers’ front door, opened, at 639
Clatsop Ave.
Spit Press, joins the group on
occasion as a writing coach.
In the spring, the orga-
nization released its debut
publication, “Kindness and
Gratitude,” and received a
tremendous response from
readers near and far, who
resonated with the theme.
The reaction to the tiny
Kindness publication was
inspiring and surprising. The
group received an email from
someone who said the poem
“Why I Watered the Plants
the Day We Left Each Other”
helped him cope with a pain-
ful breakup.
All proceeds from the
book sale and raffle are
earmarked for The League’s
second publication, on the
theme of truth, to be released
this fall.

All writers — from poets,
songwriters, essayists, nov-
elists, greeting card writers,
bloggers, journalists and his-
torians to teachers of writing
— are welcome to join.
