FOR COAST WEEKEND
R
eenactments of the Civil War
have been staged nearly since
the guns fell silent at Appomat-
tox in 1865. The earliest reenactments
were carried out by Civil War veterans
as a way to honor their fallen comrades
and educate civilians about the events
of the nation’s deadliest conflict.
This Labor Day Weekend, Clatsop
County Fairgrounds in Astoria hosts
a three-day Civil War Reenactment
and Living History, Saturday through
Monday, Sept. 1 through 3.
