exception. Tell your husband what’s

a “good friend.” This man was never
a good friend.
Dear Annie: I would like to offer
an alternative viewpoint for “Child
of the South.” I think that sometimes
we jump to conclusions about why
people do what they do and then
judge them on what we think are the
facts. “Child of the South” is assum-
ing her sister-in-law feels entitled.
Though that may be the case, it
may also be that her sister-in-law is
embarrassed about the condition of
her houses, or perhaps she feels that
she doesn’t cook as well as “Child
of the South.” There could be many
reasons, but to get angry without
knowing for sure could harm an oth-
erwise excellent relationship. I hope
“Child of the South” chooses a way
to either talk with her sister-in-law
or find a way to enjoy her company
without the expectation that the hos-
pitality will be reciprocated. Lov-
ing relationships are hard enough to
maintain without destroying them
by keeping score. — Counting
Blessings Rather Than Beans
Dear Counting Blessings: I
love your signature. Yours is an
attitude we should all strive for.
Thanks for writing.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). When you make
a move, even when you don’t really have to,
but it’s more exciting and fun than not making
a move, there’s a word for that — gambling.
Call it what it is and either refrain from it or
enjoy it.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). When things go
wrong, many feel like cutting ties and isolating
themselves, which is exactly the opposite of
what needs to happen. Reach out, get togeth-
er, help each other figure things out.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It’s as though
there’s a casino in your head and many
versions of you are seated at the table. “You’re
taking too big a chance!” says part of your
mind. But the other part is thrilled with the
odds.
the volume will turn up.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Empty your
mind onto paper then organize those bits into
categories and lists. This will not only help
you accomplish more with your days, but it
will also help you find the pleasure in each
activity.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The begin-
ning of a relationship sets the tone for how the
whole thing will play out. You’ll be understood
completely even if you’re not making perfect
sense. How wonderful!
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). To occasion-
ally indulge gives the indulgence a special
feeling. Do it too often, and the experience
ceases to be a treat. It’s a fine line, and one
you navigate well today.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). Just about all of
us skewer our perception of the world to feel
better about ourselves — a trick of the human
mind that keeps people in the game. You’re
so focused on getting to the truth; you’ve no
interest in fooling yourself.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Philanthropist
John Ruskin suggested, “It is better to be
nobly remembered than nobly born.” While a
birthright can certainly be an advantage, it’s
what you’re doing with your life that will make
your enduring legacy.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). In relationships,
the ratio of give to take is never going to be
completely 50-50. Someone will always give
a little more. It will work better if it’s not always
the same person.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You are able
to turn a mistake into an opportunity for you
and yours. So maybe it wasn’t a mistake after
all. And there is no bad luck today either, only
different kinds of good luck.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You make a
promise, and then you keep it. So why
shouldn’t you expect the same from others?
Relatedly, if you don’t think a person will come
through for you, don’t ask them to.
TOMORROW’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 15). Antici-
pate rapid-fire improvement over the next four
weeks. You’ll get to a new happiness level.
Your financial and social status will climb, but
it’s not what makes you happy. Contribution
is the source of your good feelings, and the
more you give, the more you have to give.
November and May show fortuitous travel.
Capricorn and Cancer adore you. Your lucky
numbers are: 9, 30, 2, 22 and 14.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Call a truce on
your inner war. You don’t need to be harsh
with yourself to get motivated. A gentle,
compassionate inner voice is inside you, not
being quite loud enough. Pay attention and
