Call for photos celebrating Route 6
TILLAMOOK — To com-
memorate Routes 6 and 131
being named an Oregon
Scenic Byway, Art Acceler-
ated Gallery is sponsoring
a juried photography show:
“Celebrate Route 6!”
Photographers are encour-
aged to enter their impres-
sions of the beautiful Route 6
corridor. The deadline is Sat-
urday, Aug. 11. Only emailed
entries will be accepted.
Selected work will be on
display at Art Accelerated’s
Gallery, 1906 Third St.,
from Thursday, Sept. 20,
through Saturday, Oct. 20.
An awards will be presented
at the gallery during the Art
Walk, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 22.

Get your science on at the Tillamook County Fair
TILAMOOK — The Tilla-
mook County Fair has a lot
of fun available for kids
and kids at heart. With the
Oregon Museum of Science
and Industry’s Science Fes-
tival, Fair Acres, the Dairy
Done Right Lounge and,
of course, the carnival (and
more), kids of all ages will
have fun at this year’s fair,
held Wednesday through
Saturday, Aug. 8 through
11.
Held in the TillaSkate
building from noon to 6 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday,
Aug. 8 and 9, OMSI’s
Science Festival is filled
with science equipment and
challenges.
With something for ev-
eryone, OMSI’s Brainteasers
will challenge visitors to
use math, science and some

out-of-the-box thinking to
solve their hands-on puzzles
ranging in difficulty and
content. Incorporating con-
cepts of geometry, algebra
and/or physics, the puzzles
oftentimes have surprising
solutions.
Take some time to
explore the tiny world and
the innovative technologies
coming out of the field of
nano-science. And discover
how satellites help us learn
more about the Earth and the
universe beyond.
From noon to 4 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, Aug.
10, and Saturday, Aug. 11,
the TillaSkate building trans-
forms into the Dairy Done
Right Lounge, an out-of-the-
sun area for families to take
a break and enjoy Tillamook
snacks as well as some fun
dairy exhibits. Both the
OMSI Science Festival
and the Dairy Done Right
Lounge are sponsored by the
Tillamook County Creamery
Association.
The Tillamook County
Fair runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
each day. Season passes
are on sale now at the Fair
office, TLC/Fibre Federal
Credit Union in Tillamook,
and Columbia Bank in Tilla-
mook and Manzanita.

At the fair, make friends with the environment
RAYMOND — An Environ-
mental Education Fair is
taking place all three days
of the Willapa Harbor Days
Festival in Raymond, Wash.
The fair, sponsored by the
Willapa Environmental
Working Group, is Friday
through Sunday, Aug. 3
through 5, with a booth near
the Seaport Museum.
There are speakers, edu-
cational materials, hands-on
events for kids, door prizes
and more.
Starting at 1 p.m. Satur-
day, Aug. 4, presentations
address environmental
topics, including “Bees,
Nature and Us” by biolo-
gist and lifelong beekeeper
Paul Young and “Tying Our
Economy to the Environ-
ment” by Jim Sayce, exec-
utive director of the Pacific
County Economic Develop-
ment Council.
Additionally, Nicole Ape-
lian, Ph.D., a star from the
reality TV show “Alone,”
talks about how our personal
