PLAY BALL By GARY HENLEY The Daily Astorian S ummer is the time for young, up-and-coming baseball play- ers to hone their skills and to seek out and play tough competition. But it’s also time to have some fun, with alumni games and friendly competition between local teams who usually don’t face each other in the spring. It’s all happening now on the ballfields of Clatsop County, where the summer season is in full swing. An infielder for Astoria waits for a call from the umpire after a play at third base. A Seaside infielder leaps over an opponent sliding into second base. A member of the Seaside alumni team gets a hand stretching before a game. Alumni teams are also playing friendly games during the summer baseball season.
