Happy 100th birthday, Ingmar Bergman!
WARRENTON — Clatsop Plains Pioneer
Presbyterian Church will host a film
festival celebrating the 100th birthday
of the director Ingmar Bergman, 4 p.m.
Saturdays, July 14, 21 and 28.
First up, the church will show
“Fanny and Alexander” on Saturday,
July 14, Bergman’s birthday. (He died
in 2007.) Perhaps Bergman’s most
autobiographical film, “Fanny and
Alexander” follows two siblings and
their large family in Uppsala, Sweden,
during the first decade of the 20th
century. The movie won four Acad-
emy Awards in 1984, including best
cinematography. Afterward, we’ll have
birthday cake and ice cream.
A week later, on July 21, we’ll show
“Wild Strawberries.” One of Bergman’s
most moving films, the camera follows
an aging, stubborn, grouchy professor
on a journey to receive an award. He

A ‘cozy’ murder mystery
Local author Jan Bono publishes ‘Crab Bait’
and finally comes to terms with his life
and its approaching end. After the movie
we’ll have a Swedish strawberry desert.
Bergman’s masterpiece “The Sev-
enth Seal” will be shown last on July 28.
A knight (Max von Sydow) returns from
the crusades to find Denmark ravaged
by plague. What follows is an epic
historical fantasy with one of the most
memorable final scenes in film history.
Then you’ll be cheered up with Swedish
cookies and sweet breads.
The cost is $10 per film, all three
for $20. Tickets will be available at the
door.
