three North Coast supporters

The Astoria Music Festival
(AMF) Awards Dinner was
established in 2008 to rec-
ognize outstanding civic and
cultural leaders in the com-
munity. On June 24, when the
dinner was held at the Asto-
ria Golf & Country Club, the
festival honored three North
Coast supporters of the com-
munity’s cultural life: Dr.
Leena Mela Riker, Jennifer
Lund, Ph.D., and Raymond
Lund, Ph.D.
As longtime friends,
donors and past members of
the AMF Board, presenters of
the Lund Home Concerts, sup-
porters of the Liberty Theatre,
and with Ray Lund’s activities
as a performer, Jennifer and
Ray Lund have made a lasting
impact on Astoria’s burgeon-
ing musical life.
As a long-tenure AMF
board member, past board
president and board mem-
ber emeritus and AMF advo-
cate and donor, Riker has con-
tributed to creating a strong
organizational foundation on
which the festival has grown
to become one of the most
beloved summer music festi-
vals in the Pacific Northwest,
organizers said.

grant by the Oregon Cultural
Trust to hire a consultant who
will conduct training to help
the group organize a fundrais-
ing campaign for the Astoria
Scandinavian Heritage Park.
The park will be built on
the Riverwalk between 15th
and 16th streets to commem-
orate the contributions and
influences of the Scandina-
vian community on the gen-
eral identity of the region. For

volunteer is needed for the senior ministry
to coordinate activities and programs for
the senior parishioners, singles or married
age 65 and older.
Volunteers, age 13 and older, including
adults, are needed for Camp Catechesis,
scheduled for July 30 to Aug. 3, in the
Parish Hall, for children in kindergarten to

The St.Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is

of money, materials and time.
The Sherwin Williams
store in Gearhart donated
paint, and Englund Marine
donated equipment for the
theater’s outdoor awning.
One of ASOC’s founders,
Del Corbett, chose the color,
secured donations and was
one of nearly two dozen vol-
unteers to paint the outside
of the playhouse on June 23.
Ed Luna brought his painting
equipment, so the work was
mostly finished in one day.
The 34th Season of
“Shanghaied in Astoria” offi-
cially opens July 12, but there
is a “Sneake Peek” at 7 p.m.

closing the shelter in the morning.
