‘Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical’
enchants Chinook from July 6 to Aug. 5

I
t’s a tale as old as time, but under
the direction of Brooke Flood, Dis-
ney’s “Beauty and the Beast” gets
a slightly different interpretation by the
Peninsula Association of Performing
Artists that highlights the show’s com-
plexities and social relevance.
The show, which opens Friday,
July 6, and runs through Sunday,
Aug. 5, at the Fort Columbia The-
atre, is based on the Broadway musi-
cal, and isn’t “your typical princess
story,” Flood said.
Originally, when browsing
through potential musicals that
would fit the association’s mission of
presenting family-friendly entertain-
ment, she hesitated to select a Disney
show, believing it may feel trite
and overdone. This title, however,
surprised her.
