FOR COAST WEEKEND
P
icnics! Barbecues! Bonfires!
Fireworks! Parades! These
things define the Fourth of July
as friends and relatives gather to cele-
brate the birth of our country.
And there’s plenty of fun to be had
on both sides of the Columbia River.
Seaside presents a 25-minute fire-
works spectacular — one of the largest
such productions on the Oregon Coast.
Tune your radios to KSWB (840 AM)
to enjoy music synchronized to this
event.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Seaside’s
grand parade gets under way, starting
on 12th Avenue at Necanicum Drive
then turning on Holladay Drive. The
parade heads down Broadway, makes
another right turn. It continues down
to Columbia and turns right once
more. The parade turns right on First
Avenue, left on Necanicum and ends at
the Seaside Museum.
The Fourth of July festivities in
Warrenton go from 10 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. The parade starts at 3 p.m. There
is also a car and motorcycle show,
at Robinson Community Park from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a kid’s corner
at city park from noon to 3 p.m. The
Firefighters Association hosts a free
community barbecue starting at noon.
The barbecue is put on as a thank-you
to the community.
Gearhart will have a downtown
parade beginning at 11 a.m. at Marion
and 10th streets and ending at the fire
station for soda and hot dogs.
Cannon Beach also hosts a parade,
usually starting at 11 a.m. The parade
travels north up Spruce Street and
south down Hemlock Street. A fire-
works-free celebration is also among
the offerings. (Why no fireworks? To
protect nesting seabirds on Haystack
Rock and the natural environment.)
Manzanita’s “Spirit of Ameri-
ca”-themed parade begins at 1 p.m.
along Laneda Avenue.
Astoria will have a fireworks dis-
play starting at dusk, launched over
the Columbia River from the East
