JUNE 28, 2018 // 17 ‘Pillow Talk’ has soft opening at Sou’wester WESTVALLEYSHAKERS.COM West Valley Shakers West Valley Shakers will get you dancing LONG BEACH, WASH. — West Valley Shakers plays the Sou’wester Lodge in Seaview, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. West Valley Shakers’ appeal lies in the refreshing, relatable, exquisitely crafted songs that touch the vulnera- ble truth in each of us. Combining the animalis- tic passion of Jimi Hendrix, the simple purity of The White Stripes and the truth and timelessness of the old folk singers, West Valley Shakers create a live show that gets folks up and danc- ing. Their catchy musical hooks, combined with Delta blues-style repetition and blistering guitar work, sur- prises and delights fans from all backgrounds. Guitarist/songwriter, Brent McLain met drummer/ multi-instrumentalist Eric Lucas, at an open mic at the infamous Wildwood Hotel in Willamina, Ore., and they decided to join forces. With the release of their debut EP, “Sparkle and Thump,” West Valley Shakers was born and sprang onto the scene in the summer of 2017, playing music festivals, venues and house parties. This attracted upright bass player Jed Vinson shortly thereafter, which expanded their sound even further with Vinson’s rolling bass grooves and vocal harmonies. The opening reception takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 19. In installations like “Pillow Talk,” fragments of text gleaned from found sources or original writings literally pile up in soft heaps, offering immersive, intimate exploration by visitors invited to physically em- bed themselves among the murmurings of for- gotten poets and others.
