WARRENTON — Michael Tomlinson,
one of the great singer-songwriters
of the Pacific Northwest, visits the
North Coast on Thursday, May 31,
for an intimate acoustic performance
at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.
Tickets are $50. The price
includes a delicious dinner created
by country club Executive Chef
Gehrett Billinger. The concert
starts at 5 p.m.; dinner follows the
performance. Seating is general
admission.
In Tomlinson’s music, folk rock
and jazzy pop overlap, and his
ballads are all his own. Van Toffler,
longtime president of MTV,VH1 &
CMT, calls him “completely with-
out peer.” About his album, “The
Way Out West,” West Coast Music
said, “This is the album I’ve been
waiting 20 years for James Taylor
to make.” More recently, Tomlinson
released what is arguably his finest
album yet, “House of Sky.”

FICTION IN A FLASH
SEAVIEW, WASH. — The
Sou’wester Lodge hosts
“The Creative Flash,” a writ-
ing workshop with Chelsea
Werner-Jatzke, 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. Saturday, May 12. The
cost is $25.
Flash fiction is a small,
powerful beast that will bite
you in the butt if you’re
lucky.
Think of a moment that
left a mark and ask yourself
where its teeth are. In this
class we’ll examine the
particular bite marks of a
variety of flash fictions and
work on sharpening our
own teeth in this intense,
condensed prose form. Class
time will be spent reading
and discussing examples
from masterful flash fiction
authors, generating work
from prompts, sharing writ-
ing and offering feedback.
Bring a notebook or pa-
per and a pen. Pack a snack
you can take to the beach
for a lunch break writing
