Ex-engineer drafts new
trade in watercolors
LONG BEACH, WASH. — Enjoy
Wes H. Moehnke’s water-
colors at an artist’s reception
3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April
14, at the Picture Attic (711
Pacific Ave. N.) in Long
Beach, Wash.
Upon his retirement from
a career in construction,
engineering and drafting,
Moehnke decided he wanted
to use his drawing skills
more artistically and with-
out the precision required
in his former occupation.
With this in mind, he took
art classes at Clark College,
where an instructor recom-
mended he try oil painting
as watercolor was “unpre-
dictable and difficult.” Well,
that was all the challenge
Moehnke needed.
Moehnke utilizes both
his engineering skills and
artistry to render wonderful,
often monochromatic water-
color paintings of old log-
ging equipment and trains.
It’s his way of paying
tribute to and keeping alive
the lives and memories of
the past.
